The Problem of Being Low-level Manager

Today an invitation comes to my desk. It is from National Sharia Board (in which I am one of its Executive Committee, also its founding member) who will have its Tenth Annual Meeting on the following days.
National Sharia Board is an autonomous body under Indonesian Council of Ulama that is entrusted with issuing fatwa on Islamic financial product and transaction, and posting Sharia Supervisory Board in Islamic bank.

I have never been absent in such occasion since its first Meeting 2004. It has been always me who become member of Steering Committee who give orientation as to where the meeting should go. Alhamdulillah people in National Sharia Board seems appreciate us properly
But this year seems different. New boss in the office seems ignorant on what role is the subordinate does in such important event. What the boss know is we are just an office staff who should comply to official hour worktime. So it is not surprise that no permission is given while those people in meeting venue have been waiting for me.

After waiting quite long and being sure that no chance of being permitted to attend the Meeting, then I just return to normal work. And I just then remember one friend telling me this beautiful maxims on management:
How smart you are in your job, boss is the ultimate decision maker.
How popular you are outside, you have to follow the instuction, eventhough you know its wrong. However stupid your boss in your field, he has all the right to get rid of you from your present desk.
Boss is always right. If he is wrong, please return to law no.1: the bos is always right

Allahumma asyghiliz zhaalimiin biz zhaalimiin
